Safety Manager

Wesely‐Thomas Enterprises, a premier construction services contractor, is seeking a Safety Manager.

Tasks/Responsibilities

Responsibilities include on‐site safety supervision of all work performed on jobsites including
subcontractors, vendors, Wesely‐Thomas staff and contract labor. The scope of this
responsibility includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Compliance. Write and implement policies in accordance to regulations set by OSHA and other
    regulatory agencies regarding work safety and health. Ensure compliance with local, state and
    federal health and safety regulations with the goal of zero accidents; ensure compliance with
    client safety requirements, if applicable.
  • Oversight. Manage on‐site safety programs, direct work activity with regard to safety
    procedures and best practices. Perform frequent safety and environmental inspections and
    procedural audits and take immediate corrective action, if required.
  • Safety Plans. Develop job‐specific safety plans and hazard analysis as required. Create new
    JHA’s for specific tasks. Be able to assist in creating in depth crane pick plans.
  • Project Documentation. Collect and log subcontractor safety meeting minutes. Prepare
    signage as required per project.
  • Training. Perform WTE field staff safety training on a regular, on‐going basis and to new‐hires
    as part of the on‐boarding process.
  • Accident Investigations. Lead and document accident/incident investigations.
  • Office Safety. Implement office safety program and training.

Required Skills

Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities; outstanding attention to detail; strong
observation skills; and ability to produce reports and develop policies.

Must be proactive and able to work under pressure with a sense of urgency while remaining
flexible as conditions may change. Effectively present information to groups, managers, clients,
subcontractors, etc. Ability to multi‐task, prioritize and work in a fast‐paced environment.
Travel will be required to various job sites throughout southern California, primarily in or near
the Ventura County area.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk;
walk on un‐even surfaces; sit; sit or stand for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or
feel; talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders. The employee is occasionally required to reach
with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to
move freely and easily. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Experience/Qualifications

Minimum of 6‐8 years’ experience in all areas of Construction; OSHA 10 and preferably OSHA
30 training; NFPA 70E for electrical. OSHA‐standard training to certify employees for forklifts,
scissor lifts, and extended reach equipment. Training/certification from 1926 CFR & 1910 CFR
Construction, 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Transport, Confined Space Entry, Safety Attendants,
Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Inspection of Safety Equipment, Rigging Equipment, Electrical
Tools, and Welding Equipment. Intermediate to advanced computer skills including MS Office
applications and MS Project.
