Systems Safety Engineer/Manager

Seeking a Systems Safety Engineer at the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Edwards, AFB, CA.

Description

ASRC Federal on the ASTROS contract supports Propulsion Research efforts in many areas. The Systems Safety Engineer will work as part of a team analyzing proposed test facilities, to identify hazards, categorize risk, and recommend mitigations to reduce the probability/severity of a mishap resulting in injury to personnel, facility and equipment damage, and/or damage to the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate all current test program documents and resolve all safety issues and coordinate with Test Engineers and Test Site Managers to review all systems safety recommendations.
  • Perform periodic review on existing test sites inspecting run lines and tanks to ensure integrity.
  • Participate in various facility design meetings and ensure planned systems will function safely. Provide analysis to demonstrate function, compatibility and the durability of the systems.
  • Develop and participate in all test activities and ensure compliance to all safety requirements and evaluate all system engineering documents.
  • Perform system safety engineering requirements, review all plans and drawings for accuracy and coordinate with Test Site Engineers to maintain quality of all documents and drawings.

Requirements

  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of Federal, State and Air Force (AF) Safety and Health Regulations.
  • Demonstrated background in Systems Safety
  • Project Management Experience a plus
  • Intermediate knowledge and usage of MS Office Tool Suite
  • Must be able to work out in the field performing reviews and monitoring work efforts
  • Write, review and maintain all the ASTROS Safety plans
  • Preferred understanding of Industrial Hygiene processes
  • Review safety documents, perform inspections and provide guidance to customers
  • Will be required to attend all Work Site Safety Meetings
  • Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor
    Must have excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to make professional presentations to the customer
  • Must be punctual with attendance at the work site and reporting information to the customer

Education/Required Skills

  • 7-9 Years of Experience in the field of Systems Safety
  • Related Engineering Degree
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
  • May be required to work off standard shifts
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and extreme cold
  • Must be able to work at heights
  • Knowledgeable in regulatory compliance for: OSHA, CalOSHA, and other local, state and federal policies and laws

Clearance

  • Must be able to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance.
