Topic: Emergency Preparedness:  Using an “all hazards” approach to address the six critical areas of emergency response

UCLA Health’s Emergency Management Program uses an “all hazards” approach to ensure effective mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery to disasters and emergencies that affect the hospital environment of care. The Emergency Management Program addresses six critical areas of emergency response, including communication, resources and assets, security and safety, management of staff, utilities management, and the management of patients. In addition to these critical areas, UCLA Health maintains readiness by focusing on initiatives such as Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, department emergency response plans, disaster trainings and exercises, personal preparedness education, and many others.
